Position: Executive Director
The Middle Rio Grande Development Council (MRGDC) is accepting applications for Executive Director of a nine county region. The counties are Dimmit, Edwards, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, and Zavala and the Executive Director must reside in one of the nine counties. This position is located in Carrizo Springs, Texas, and serves as chief administrative officer of MRGDC and the principal policy advisor to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Performs highly responsible managerial and supervisory work in planning, organizing, and directing the operations of the organization, including advising on policy matters and administering policies. Salary is dependent upon experience and set by the Board of Directors, the salary range starts at $100,000 with benefits.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: Master’s degree (MA/MS) in government, public, or business administration, planning or a related field, and at least 5 years progressively responsible experience in public administration, including managerial and supervisory experience in planning or intergovernmental relations; OR Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in government, public or business administration, education, social sciences or a related field, and at least 7 years progressively responsible experience in public administration, including managerial and supervisory experience, and experience in planning or intergovernmental relations; OR high school graduation and at least 10 years progressively responsible experience in public administration, including managerial and supervisory experience and experience in planning or intergovernmental relations: OR any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge: Excellent working knowledge of general management principles and extensive knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations and guidelines on a variety of programs required. Knowledge of city and/or county government preferred.
Skills/Abilities: Ability to apply general management principles; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials in local, state and federal government, and in the private sector; and to interpret and communicate to others the laws, rules, regulations and guidelines on a variety of programs. Demonstrated ability to select, develop, organize, motivate and effectively utilize staff. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and ability to work independently and creatively. Ability to see, hear, reach, stoop, bend, and lift and carry up to 30 pounds required.
Additional Requirement: Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license subject to an approved motor vehicle report and reliable transportation with valid proof of insurance for travel within MRGDC region.
